How can a person meditate?

Best Answer
My way - choose something to focus on (mentally) during meditation. Some choose music, some choose quiet. Lay on a comfortable couch, bed, etc. As you lay there try to feel your legs getting heavy and heavier. Then the calves of your legs. Take your time - just focus on those parts of your body. Then the tops of your legs and continure until you are focusing on your head being heavy. The focus on whatever you have decided to meditate on - think of that thing slowly surrounding you and releasing the heaviness - thinkof it as a sort of cushion lifting you from the bed.
Don't be disappointed if it doesn't work at first. Just keep on trying. If my idea for you doesn't work, try some of the other posts here. meditation is like everything else. Some kinds work for some people and some kinds don't. Find you kind.

Oh! There are so many good ways! Walk in the woods, lie on your back and watch the clouds, pull the weeds from your garden, shovel the snow from your walk, watch children play in the park, wash your dishes by hand, soak in a warm tub of bubbles, lie quietly in bed and listen to the sound of the rain on your roof, laugh for no reason!

meditation is best approached by selecting an issue bothering you requiring divine illumination.you take the bible and gather all the scriptures relating to that issue like finance, barreness, sickness, longevity etc.
you choose a quiet place ,by the seaside or mountaintop or in the woods or the rooftop and sit or stand and talk the isssue out expecting an answer.if you stay long enough at it,the answer drops into your spirit and you will know you have been enlightened on that issue.peace will come and something good will immediately happen to you because good understanding bring favour along with it.i was on a fast and while praying and meditating,i was told the reason for the problem and was divinely instructed to call off the fast and as i enterd my apartmeny, the desired parcel came in by DHL.YOU ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK,I PRAY YOU WILL FIND THE TRUE KNOWLEDGE YOU SEEK.BEWARE DONT ENTER THE REALM OF DEMONIC MEDITATION.

Quiet
Deep Breathing
Clear your mind or think of something calming
RELAX

If there is something you are trying to find an answer to, I find two things that help me: 1) imagine the wisest person you can think of - picture yourself approaching them and asking them your question; or 2) put your question/problem inside an imaginary mailbox and then go into a garden and don't think about it. When you come out of the garden, look in the mailbox and you will find your answer/solution.

Good luck.

You may not be a Christian, but this is a cool way I figured out. Open the Bible to anywhere and start reading. Remember, even if you do not believe it- that these are the words of the guy who created the universe and you, who knows you inside and out. You really have to detatch yourself from paradigm you have built up about the Bible to do this- even if you are religious. Once you have this in your mind, do not let your mind wander, do not think your own thoughts- concentrate on the words you are reading as the ultimate words in the universe written specifically for human beings- and to you personally.

However just because they are written to you, doesn't mean you can construe them anyway you want- rather the opposite- you must read them exactly as written. No matter what the truth comes out- it is the truth. It doesn't matter if it is about rape, murder, love, some character, whatever it is- the whole point is every word is exactly as things are- there IS no spin on anything you will read- God is merely telling you exactly as things are.

If you really enjoy this you will want to read the Bible from front to cover and it will open your eyes to a new world. It is not really a different mindset than any other type of reading or having a conversation with another person- in those situations too you want of course to stay straight and sane and not 'see things through your own spin'- but with the Bible what makes it different is this is a larger view from someone who can see the whole picture.

This kind of exercise is not really about belief at all- you just have to go from the assumption that this is a message to you from the ultimate view to show you objectively what the world is like.

Another time you may want to read the Bible from 'this is just a book man has written- a history textbook, literature, psalms ect.- and see what different types of conclusions you come to. But in the end if you do both exercises right and have read the whole Bible to see the whole picture (with a completely clear mind), I think you will definitely see the first view makes the most sense-

anyway- this is just a unique take on the act of meditation.

As I'm in bed before I fall asleep, I'll hear voices, snippets of conversations. The words are very clear and I can understand them perfectly. If I attempt to remember or write down what I am hearing, I loose the ability to hear.

I think that's what meditation is.
Be quiet.
Listen.
Don't think. Let the mind go where it wishes to go.
