I think Greg is on the right track...

The standard web definitions include unconventional and unusual. My understanding is that it refers to unpredictible and unreliable. EG> "he got real flakey" or "he flaked out"

So..depending on the use...he /she will need to become more reliable, dependable and conforming.

If you are asking, you probably already have some idea that the perception of flakiness exists...explore the origin, whether through discussion or introspection.

The difficult thing is that the flakee usually is not objective enough to determine their own specific idiosyncracies.

Thus, it would be necessary to develop one or several mentors to help understand and provide guidance. Becoming more reliable may be fairly straightforward. Changing toward conformity would probably be difficult and distasteful. Who really wants to give up their weird but endearing personality?

As an aside, although I was never called flakey to my face, I was called weird. I did learn after many years to conform...I miss my weirdness and teach my kids that they should not aspire to be average or boring. And that the irony is that the people held in the highest esteem, are individuals that have chosen the path less traveled....those with the courage to change paradigms of thought, fashion, music are usually considered weird....It's not necessiarily a bad thing.

Peace

Be for real with people and tell the truth no matter what. Do what you say and say what you mean. Treat others with kindness and truth. The truth is powerful and will set you free and then you are for real and not flakey..........

Flakey can take many forms. They can be less intelligent than the average person...or they could be JUST as intelligent but just not very organized, hence giving the IMPRESSION that they are flakey. If it's the later case, I would think that making notes, setting up a TO DO list, having a calendar (to keep one ON TIME) and just paying close attention to the clock could help out significantly in their everyday life. Just my $.02 for the day.
