You can get busy with some work or a hobby. If you have to just sit and not think they you could say one word over and over to yourself to block those thoughts you do not want in your mind. I used to say YES over and over to block some things that bothered me. I said yes one time for 6 weeks when ever my mind started saying too much for me to handle. Trying to block negative thoughts and think positive ones right of hand is very hard ;and can only go so far. Start by listening to your thoughts without trying to redirect them; understand how and when they arise; feel their movements. Don't get involve or associate with them. Just let them be there.
