I had this problem, my daughter screamed for the first 6 months of her life, no sleep, i tried everything, so i gave her dosal to help her sleep for about a week and she got into a routine. Finally! I know that a lot of mothers don't believe in things like that but i had to for my own sanity.

One of my boys was from the start a child who seemed never to sleep. I thought I was going to loose my mind! Actually it's possible that I did loose part of it anyway. I don't know what you've tried already but I ended up putting him in bed with me. Although sometimes that can start a whole new problem if you have a partner that isn't keen on that idea or if baby decides he/she can't sleep without you there too. But it did allow me to get a little bit of sleep once in a while. Good luck to you. I hope all works out well for you & baby.

I had the same trouble! But once we got on a routine you could of set your watch to her.We went for our evening walk then our bath with Johnson & Johnson Bedtime Lotion(suppose to help soothe them)and then we rocked for a little bit and I put her to bed before she passed out all the way.It is suppose to teach them how to get to sleep with out us being there the whole time.I also done the not picking them up but I think i might of done that when she was little older...all preference.Relax though they know you are tense.

maybe a smidge of rice cereal in the milk... babies sleep til their tummy is empty.

I bought the rice milk for his bottle, and I did not feed him till around 7pm. This made him sleepy at the right time,
Turn down the lights in the house, put the tv on low.
This way the mood is sleepy in the house. The baby knows it is different now, quiet time.

I went to my bedroom and rocked him to sleep.
By the way, do not use any form of alcohol and or cough medications. Thats a good way to addict your child to something the doctor would throw a fit and cause you legal issues.
Motherhood is hard at first, but gets easier if you are consistant.

There is a book that my wife and I were given when we had our first child that outlines a simple strategy that got our child sleeping 12 hours a night by the time he was 3 months old. It has worked with every couple we have recommended it to as well. It takes a little discipline at the beginning; but it is well worth it IMO. It is called "Twelve Hours' Sleep by Twelve Weeks Old". I am in no way affiliated with the author who is Brazilian or something. It is a short book, maybe 80 pages and very simple. Hope this helps.

I agree with fukkboii about the cereal but i would also add some fruit. Did it for both my girls and they slpt all night from very early on. Is your baby up all night but sleeps all day? if so he has his days and nights mixed up and he needs to be flipped. Just hold him in your arms and flip him completely around. i had to do this for my oldest. good luck.

I don't think that 5 months is old enough to expect a baby to sleep through the night. Some do, some don't.
