Don't give them money. I don't know if it would help or not, but the first thing that came to mind is to have the number for gambler's anonymous typed up on cards and every time they ask to borrow money, give them one of the cards instead.

The pain and shame of screwing up so badly should eventually get them to wake up, but also the knowledge that he cant win might help. As one ex-problem gambler to another, If you want to win gambling the only way to do it is to own the casino, as a pla<x>yer, forget it, the occasional win wont even pay back all you have previously lost and you will also lose more in the future too. Don't hate yourself, be a responsible person and if you still want to be a gambler, be a good one, don't bet what you can't afford to lose, and don't be an idiot, be someone you can look in the mirror at and be proud of. No one from the outside can change your habits without first depriving you of freedom and if that is what it takes to keep you from screwing up then you better find someone that feels like taking on your burden quick and you better have something to offer for their trouble.
