To overcome any upset usually I've just had to reach the other person, and reach again, and reach again till they reached back. A phone message, a card, flowers, another phone message, another card, candy.... all done with cheerfullness until the other person responded with cheerfullness also. Sometimes it takes hours, sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months before the hurt is healed, but if you don't stop trying eventually you'll be able to mend it.
