How can I motivate myself to exercise again?
I have now been in a depression rut for almost a month. I have really slowed down if not stopped exercising. I just don't feel like it, don't think I'm worth it. How can I start back into my routine?

Set yourself some goals to achieve within a limit of time
Set yourself a reasonable every day plan that is acheivable
Set yourself a reward for when you've acheived it.
take it step by step rather than thinking of doing it all in one big go, its Not going to work straight away, it takes persistance and confidence in yourself.
To achieve something, you have to do it because you WANT to do it, it doesn't work if you have someone else pushing you along, it has to be YOU believing in yourself and you need to believe that the effort you put into it is worth the reward... what you put into the fight, you get out of it. Goodluck!

i agree with the last poster. I was in the same rut, but all I could think about was how great I felt when I was working out 6 days a week even though the weight wasn't comming off because of my diabetes, but now my sugars are under control and I swim 3 days a week sometimes more. I do 6 laps a day and add 1 more to it. I started with 2 laps now I am up to 10. And I feel so much better now that I have been staying with it. Try to get a friend or someone to go with you, that may help.

I have a hot personal trainer. (seriously he is hot but he is not my only motivation.) I try to remember that my health comes first in all I do. Also each payday I put 20 bucks in an envelope.... I set myself certain goals to achieve and when I achieve that goal I spend the money in the envelope on something I want. Lately it has been stuff to wear to the gym. (Have to show off the buns of steel just a little) For example I may set a timeframe to work up to on the treadmill at a particular pace... Or that I will be able to do x number of reps on a particular exercise... I usually don't focus my goals on a particular amount of weight loss because of the difference in muscle and fat weight. I hope this helps.

I am in the same vote. I took a before photo of myself and put it on my dresser next to a photo that I want to look like. I make small goals that I know I can do. I know it's easier said than done. The bottom line there is no magic pill. It's just plane old eating right and working out. We just have to get off our fat butts and to it or we will just get fatter and fatter and we will have no one to blame but our own lazy selfs. GOOD LUCK TO US ALL

You know what gets me super motivated? Watching re-runs of the biggest loser. I am not overweight, but when I see these overweight people doing the things that they do... I get MOTIVATED! Hope this helps.

1. Buy new clothes, get a new haircut etc. Working out is about self-image. There are lots of things you can do to improve your self-image and make yourself feel a bit better about yourself. This makes you feel good and you think "hey, if this is how I feel now, imagine how good I'll feel when I'm slimmer."

2. Buy new work-out gear or get a new bicycle or new training shoes. Nothing says "I'm taking my training seriously" than new gear. And it puts you in the frame of mind to train.

3. Experiment with different types of exercise. Not everything works for all people and it helps if you enjoy what you do. For me it's cycling. For you it might be yoga.

4. Find things that make training more enjoyable. Buy an iPod and play your favourite tunes while you work out.

5. Consider playing sport rather than working out in a gym. For instance, tennis is a fantastic way to keep fit, and it's more fun than walking in place on a treadmill.

6. Subscribe to fitness and sports magazines, visit websites and get interested in the whole area of health and fitness. It empowers you and makes you feel like "I know how to do this".

7. Think of every session as another step in the process of building your routine. Routine is a powerful tool in fitness. Humans are hard-wired to follow routines and once one is established, it's hard to stop.

You can begin slowly, walking perhaps, if you have a cd player with ear phones, the music will encourage you to move. Start 1/4 a mile at a time, and each day add 1/4 mile, until you are up to a couple miles a day. If you don't have sidewalks, or a track to walk on you can head to the nearest mall. Kathy Smith has wonderful walk fit cds. Everyday you are consistant, you are rewarding yourself, when you feel up to it, you can begin new types of excersize and alternate them. Good Luck! Ascher

Let go, let flow and FALL IN LOVE AGAIN. It'd better be someone young, sweet, with a body of a drop-dead gorgeous Greek god(dess). All of the above is sure to motivate you to resume your excercising and much more. I'm pretty much in the same boat myself as of now, gluing the pieces of my broken heart back together after a stressful breakup with my life partner I'd spent 4 years with, but I'm working on it :-)
