You can't be sure even in things you can touch. Our mind with all the senses can easily full us, stuff like placebo effect and inplanted memories. Things like feeling you are in love over nothing, daltonism and there is a lot more of those. You can only hope that the reality thats around you is accualy real, somethimes faith is the only real thing you have.

You just know. Your heart races, your mind knows that that is what it's touching. It can be a spiritual experience as well.

It's a shmoozy, fuzzy feeling. It's like peeing your pants. Everyone can see it, but only you can feel its warmth.

One can't see or really touch air but we know it is there because we see the result of its presence.

If a person is delusional be it because of drugs or mental illness there are more things in their life that they must be sure of because they probably saw or was touched by "things in their mind"

Also one's mind will interpret things they see or feel sometimes in off the wall ways so even then the person isn't sure of the thing.

Meaning that what one is sure of someone else might just take as faith because they didn't have the same experience.

The physical world is the most stable one; what you can see and touch and experience at first hand, you can know is true... But experiences sometimes lead you to infer that a force or being or whatever is true, even if you can't see or touch it directly. However, the inference is a thing of the mind, and may or may not be illusory. You are taking the "available evidence" and using that to justify a mental picture of what your mind thinks is happening. And sometimes that's the best you can do in the moment, till more evidence comes to your notice.

So the answer is, you can't be so sure, if you can't see or touch. You can only use logic and intuition to guide you on the rest!

Do you breathe?
If you breathe then there is something to breathe in. Cause and effect. If a door hits you in the eye, then you feel pain. If you stob your toe - pain again. If someone kisses you - pleasure. Cause and effect. If you cry, that sadness has to have some cause. If you can't see it or feel it doesn't mean it is not there.

Ever smell a noxious odor? A pleasant one?
Happiness? Sadness?
Your ancestors that you've never met?
Music?
The wind?

Why do you cry?
Because you believe that something you experienced has affected you.
Why do you smile?
Because you believe that something you experienced has affected you.
Why do you believe?
Because of the experience ;-)

I believe it is different for everyone. For me, my best explanation is to use this wonderful quote... "there are two ways of living: one as though nothing is a miracle. the other as though everything is." The world I see around me, it's beauty and perfection-providing us with all that we could ever need, and maintenance of balance, gives me faith that there is something at work.

I once heard a rabbi say that the delemma of the aethist is that no matter how much he professes to not believe in God, he can never be sure that God hears this since nothing about God can be proven empirically. Therefore he must function on faith that somehow God in his omnipotence can divine and know that he doesn't believe in Him.

You can't see or touch some spectrums of light in the ultra violet or infrared band. You can't see or feel x-rays,micro waves,or radio waves, but they are there .With the proper receiver you have their evidence. You are the receiver of God, you just tune him in with your faith.

There are many more ways to experience the world than just through sight and touch. The obvious ones would be smell, sound, and taste. But you can also "feel" things like emotions. That isn't covered by any of the five senses but you know that that is real. People who have faith just feel what they believe is true. I tend to trust my feelings more than I trust my eyes or my skin, but to each their own.
