i bet anything hes not ur soulmate.. thats why ur not with him.. so dont worry about people who are irrelevant to ur life.. instead do what u like doing.. go to groups that do things u do like ur hobbies and u will find amazing people closer to ur personality.. people get attached to supperficial relationships too easy.. and thats bad..

How long has it been since the breakup? Is it fresh, or has it been a while?

I can tell you this...It will get better, not matter what. But you have to work on it. If it's fresh. Feel like ****. Cry. Look at old photo's, whatever. Allow yourself the pain.
But when you've cried your eyes out, and feel like opening the window and looking outside, be good to yourself. Do things that you like. No anxiety. But try. Do something that you've always wanted to do. Go to a new place. Check out a new city. Anything. It might feel like crap when you do it. You might think to yourself, this is cool, but it would be cooler with my ex. But let it go. Do it anyways. You will feel better in the end.

Remember, you have to allow yourself to fully accept the result of the relationship and be at peace with it sooner or later.

Talk to people you trust. Spend time with the people you care about.
You are alive. You will survive.
