How can you really tell if someone is a walking time bomb ready to go off?

if so, would it be wise to keep antagonizing such persons.

Please...read the DeBecker book. It will help you to assess potentially dangerous people and situations. It is inexpensive, on Amazon, easy to read and it will teach you a lot about dangerous people and what to do about them.

Check with friends and neighbors, old schoolmates etc. The sort of people they always interview afterward who say, "He was always such a quiet boy."
If they tell you this person was such a person, run away.

Actually, people who do terrible, unexpected, crimes are not really "quiet" and, in fact, they usually give off quite a few obvious warning signals before they explode. The neighbors say these things because they are not very observant, do not have a lot of time to analyze the problems of their neighbors and are not always tuned in to the signs a person is potentially violent. Also, reporters do not have a lot of time, either, and they often grab the first neighbor they see rather than look for the neighbors who DID observe things worth noting.

Read: The Gift of Fear by Gavin DeBecker. It will answer this question and tell you what to do, and not do, about it.
