I think the difference between arrogance and confidence is almost like that between genius and stupidity. Confidence has limitations while arrogance knows none.

You can never have enough confidence. Confidence is positive and means 'believing in ones own abilities'. Cockiness is a different thing altogether. It means 'to be excessively proud of your self' and usually involves putting other people down, or making them feel insecure, in the process. So the anwer to your question is don't be so excessively proud that you make someone else feel uncomfortable. (This will depend very much on how secure those people are, who are around you and remember those who call you cocky are usually jealous of your confidence/abilities, anyway)

Doubt yourself for a second, you're insecure.
Have a moment of confidence and you're labeled cocky.
Either way you lose.

When you fail to look at feedback. At that point the confidence becomes arrogance. You start to think like a republican. You join the GOP.

17. Not sure what that is, but you seemed to want some kind of a quantitative measure. So 17 it is.

Confidence: "I'm awesome and I know it."
Cockiness: "I'm better than you and I won't shut up until everyone knows it."

Cockiness doesn't have as much to do with confidence as people tend to think. Confidence is good (generally speaking.) Cockiness is just obnoxious and a sign of immaturity and a desperate attempt to cover up insecurity.

Exactly what ArtistAeli said.

Confidence - Humility = Cocky.

Without humility, you cannot have a realistic estimate of yourself. What you see in the mirror will be inflated and distorted by pride. To the trained eye, mainly older people, you will appear exactly as you are: pretentious and foolish. "Pride goeth before destruction. A haughty spirit before a fall" - a Bible verse
