Merchant opposition to what was perceived as arbitrary taxation unified like-minded individuals throughout the colonies........in other words, it was the beginning of the end of British rule!
Almost no effect whatsoever. The colonists happily paid their tea taxes and gave ol' George III everything he asked for, right??
