I think the poster got the wrong end of the stick as they thought I was talking about other sites which also striked but you all know what they mean anyway as the answers show. MegaUpload & MegaVideo were both shut down by the FBI and millions seized.

Casting aside the debate of 'Copyright' for the moment ...<br />
<br />
Megaupload used to be a *free* file sharing site; no different than many, many others still out there. When it wasn't taking revenue by way of membership fees, it was still no different than man others file-sharing sites still out there. But I think it went over the line when it started to charge a membership fee. Those officials looking in would (and did) target Megaupload, because (from the obvious point of view) it wasn't only file-sharing, it was taking a *lot* of money in subsc<x>ription fees.<br />
<br />
Copyright infringement is the issue here, but what I feel is the *bigger* issue here is in how blatantly Megaupload became a subsc<x>ription only site. Taking that into consideration, then it made itself a clear and open target; it was only a matter of time before the FBI went knocking on their doors. But it should be considered that others who are hosting file-sharing sites are being closed in on and closed who *don't* want a penny. Is it any wonder they are where they are now?<br />
<br />
Yet again, Copyright is the issue that would be debated, but I'm more tempted to cast a thought at how they blatantly took millions of £'s and expected they could carry on legally.<br />
