My husband and I went to the doctor and got a Rx for Chantix. We took one weeks worth of the pills and decided we could do it the second week...and we did. The only side effect we had was stomach pains after taking the pill if we didn't drink enough water with it. Almost three years later we are still smoke free and better for it.

i smoked for 24 years and finally decided i was stronger than a cigarette! i ate a lot of carrot sticks and celery sticks, for weeks on end it seemed, and that satisfied my oral cravings. eventually the nicotine desire subsided.

LOL - love that Blood.

I did it through hypnosis. It was a 1:1 session; not one of those group seminars. Never went through withdrawals or cravings or anything. I was actually surprised it worked.

I used Chantix. The prescription was kind of forced on me by a doctor that was not my own and I held onto it for a few weeks..I really did not want to fail so I was thinking it was better not to even try again.

In any case, I DID finally fill the script and used it as directed and I was able to quit. And I stayed quit, even through some very stressful situations (my husband died within five months of quittinf).

I am very happy to not smoke and I DO NOT HATE smokers like a lot of former smokers do.

I had my last cigarette five minutes before I found out I was pregnant. The morning sickness actually helped to tamp down my cravings. The funny thing was, I found I missed the "lighting" of the cigarette more than the actual smoking of it. You know? Lighting that cigarette was like punctuation marks on the pace of my day. So, everytime I would usually light one, like when I began a phone conversation, or finished a meal, or, (blush, you know) I developed a little mantra., "No thank you", I would say to myself, "I don't smoke." It helped. And, after about three weeks, the cravings got much better. Just don't ever, ever, ever, have that first cigarette. It's been 24 years now, and I never have.

I quit for three years taking a smoking cessation pill that the doctor perscribed. (I lit up again due to stress - big mistake!) A little while ago I tried the pill again, and had an allergic reaction (rash on my arms); so now I am trying gum!

Ask your doctor and he / she can give you all of your options.

I smoked from grade eight until December 31st 2008 at 11:58pm. I stopped cold turkey and had a couple nervous breakdowns. I relapsed a few times but ultimately, quit smoking. I did it for myself, my family, my best friend, and most importantly: my brother.

Mind over matter.

I quit Jan 1, 2009 cold turkey. I didn't kill anyone (not sayin there weren't some injuries). My husband has not had any luck quitting so he just got a prescription from the doctor. He says he's starting it Monday.

I took a shot behind my ear and I was done. After 30 years of loving them, I was done. I'm amazed still!! It's been 4 years and everyone around me puffs all day long.
