People who were subjected to too much control early in life.
That's their way of getting back. Always needing to be lst and on top of everything. Also, those who are insecure
feel that's there only way to be in control. They pick on those who are weaker than themselves and can't fight back. Besides, that in itself is an ego trip.

Insecurities within their personality! Having been controlled themselves or the more common, being abandoned emotionally by someone! Thus their controlling reassures them they will have what they want when they want it unless the other party resists which usually cause the demise of that relationship! Controlling can be accomplished in many ways! Verbally strict like with giving orders, Verbally passive with compliments to make someone do what you want! Bribing with a gift of person or cash to get the result wanted from someone! So on

It makes them feel safe always being in control. Usually they are very insecure. Plus if you are controlling it pretty much means you are an uptight jerk and you should just relax and try to enjoy your life.

I experience the "Birth" of a Bully-wannabe person this year. At first everything is fine when we start to know each other. The I learned of her sad life, filled with troubles and dissatisfactions. Then her stories started to go all wacky and distorted- my bestfriend started to question the authenticity of her stories. Then I got a serious problem myself.
Then she learned my problem. Then she started to see me in the whole different light- and she started practicing her 'control' over me. She wants to know how far she can push, and how far I will let her be.

The sad thing about it is the fact that she spends her whole afternoons complaining about some people "controlling" her life, but then when she has the chance(or see a chance) she transform into them. So I hold my ground now that bullies are bullied by someone else, so controlling people must be controlled too by someone else.
And boy, it's just like a hierarchy there. Like, someone 'bully' someone he thinks weaker, then the bullied one will try to extort someone else he thinks weaker than him....and the chains go on and on until it down to the last person(who maybe will committ suicide or just spend their lifetime being the lowest in the foodchain).

I think the best way to break awya from the chain is just like that- reject to be a part of the hierarchy.

In my family, being controlling is a result of expectations. If someone has high expectations, there is nobody to be trusted to enforce those expectations but yourself. That is the general mentality. A controlling person will manipulate others to achieve any pleasing ideas they may have. And no matter how insignificant the idea, they become angry when they're let down. Usually this does come from anxiety. Anxiety causes people to worry intensely about sometimes small things, and the more worry, the more a person will try and grasp that small thing for stability. The only way to get rid of controlling behavior is to get rid of the anxiety (or sometimes addiction) that feeds it. The method for solving that can be something like positive/relaxing self-talk, meditation, or therapy. Some very extreme anxiety requires additional treatment.
