Start with what you like to do.Do you like to ride bikes? Most of those snooty bike shops have ride groups.They often have bikes you can rent or even bike borrow memberships.Just go ask.There are also walking, jogging. and running clubs.To find those check your city's FB and webpage.If they have a activity center check there.

Whether you're doing it for yourself or others or someone special, let whatever motivation you have, carry on. You can't expect five minutes on the treadmill to change your life. Startwith simple things like walking then increase to a jog. Cardio trims you down awful well. Keep your heartbeat up and your eyes on the prize

You shouldn't strain yourself too much during your intial levels of training. Take it slow and build up. If you want a basic routine, just go out and buy a jump-rope and also walk/run a mile.
If you have the means, go ahead and join a gym. But yeah, I would watch youtube vids and go to a fitness forum.
There is no such thing as 'toning.' Cardio can be done every other day or every day for 20-30 minutes. It can also be done as a warm-up prior to weight-training for 5-10 minutes (highly recommended to warm up the muscles). PM me if you want further help. I could write you up a sample routine to try out. I just need to know your training experience (ie: how, when, and where you workout and what equipment you have).
