I'm 16 almost 17, I have a food handlers card, and lost to A 14 yr old Female with no food handlers card. I think its sexist. but nobody will hire me, because I'm male, and i don't have job history or experience, I don't have job history because nobody will hire me.

What should I do =l

I'm too young for unemployment, and may about to have some serious financial issues.

You need to make sure that potential employers want to hire you. You have to seem like you are willing to work hard and are eager to learn. Never go into an interview looking and acting like you are lazy or not interested in being there. Ask questions it shows interest. Hope this helps.

Hi there Kiwipanda,
I have some tips that have always helped me. Give it a go and see what turns up. Get the newspaper EVERY day, flick through and see whats available. For example, seasonally waiting tables is always a great job that gives plenty of opportunity..if you find someone willing to give you a go it is a great way to develop customer service skills that you will use all your life. I say this as an easy example as it in my area is usually the most in need of staff. If thats not your thing, you need to really identify what sort of work you are willing to do. What are you good at? What do you like? Are you good with people, if not are you good on the phone, or have computer skills, or willing to do labour like gardening or building. sorry you didnt mention if you were a boy or girl.. i think male is implied. The trick is, be willing to do anything (with in reason), and treat it as a learning experience. Most of an interview is about personality, not just skill set, although you want to decide what it is you want to do and work toward that either by study or unpaid work experience. Alot of interview is about them sussing your personality out. So be sure to have an enthusiastic attitude, be polite and professional, be neat, be on time, be ready to start and walk in to the interview thinking they want you, not that you probably wont get it, lifes not fair, you never get a go. I know thats hard if you have had knock backs, and feel like youre not getting anywhere..But keep trying, have a neat clean resume that reflects what your achievements are in school and any extra training that is relevant to the job. Have an objective why you want the job, and how you will be an asset because of this and this and this...You have to have confidence and sell yourself. There are great interview techniques on most job web sites, so have a look and start to prepare yourself well for success. Most of it is presentation, communication, do a little research into the job so you know what your in for. Be easy going, relax. Interviews are fun, they are meant to test how you are under pressure. If you cant find any vacancies in the paper, grab the local directory and actually call businesses, introduce yourself ask to speak to Human resources or whoever does the hiring, and request an interview for anything that may be comming up, or simply ask if you would be able to drop a resume by. Be sure to get the name of who to address it to and hand it to them personally in a neat clearly marked large envelope. This shows great initiative, and lets them see you are willing to go the extra mile. It will feel wierd at first, but after you've done a few you will get more confident. Prepare, present, have confidence.. You can do it good luck..hope this helps...it has worked for me every time..I have won most of the jobs I have gone for..and have never been without work unless I have chosen..

Go thru a temporary agency, they are usually a little better at finding jobs for people. If that doesn't work, yo may need to wait until 17 so u don't have to have a work permit, you'll have more opportunity then. If nothing else, go and make signs for mowing lawns or something..or dog walking?

Lost out to a 14 year old.....What state are you in....I have always thought that the min. federal age was 16....But never mind

When you go in make sure to wear nice cloths....No Jeans...Or tee shirts.....Say please...thank you...No Sir...and Yes Mame...

Also about 5 days after the interview....(Or when you applied) go back and check on it....Ask an Adult....A teacher...coach...Pastor...or just a family friend write you a letter of recommendation.....ANd never give up....Check back every month or so.....You will get hired if for no other reason so you will stop pestering them....It does work...

I know....I worked for a Burger joint as a Shift Leader...(low managment)...and I would give interviews...and those were the ones that I would pass along to the manager...

But if they came in dressed sloppy....with no respect....Well those apps went the way of the round file cabinet.....More commonly called the trash can

Best of luck to you
