Resolved Question

My father has only two children, my sister and I. He really wasn't there when we were kids, and the only reason he is in my life now is because I allowed him to be. When I was 26 I told him candidly what hapen when he left, and how life was, ans how it left my sister and I. Since then he has tried. However he is still very selfish and doesn't help as a parent should. Sometimes I really don't expect him to but even when I explain to him what I need or what I want he still is oblivelous. At this point how do I get what I need from him?welcome=t3

i don't know if you will ever be able to get what you need from your dad. i know mine has never given me what i need either, although i have tried. but, at this point in my life, i know he will never be the kind of parent i've always wanted, and i've made it up in my mind to quit beating my head against a wall. this man is not going to change and i've made my peace with that. it may not be the answer for everyone, but for me it's healthier to let him go and focus on the good relationships i do have with people who give me what he never could.
