Make the call asap. For years, literally, years, I thought that I needed mental help. Turns out I did! It took a crisis for me to realize and get the help I needed.

Do it now. Don't let your life become a crisis.

Depends where you live I guess. In the UK you should go to your GP.

October 10th is National Depression Screening Day. Many county Human Services agencies will have free, confidential screenings. Some will have them on the 9th due to the holiday but please be sure to ask your specific agency. You don't have to have insurance. You don't have to have money. You just have to take that step and take care of yourself. Now go to it!

I know that here in Southern California, you can walk right up to a mental health hospital (not an asylum, dont worry) and get an evaluation, and if you have no insurance L.A. country will pay for your stay if you would want to look into something like that. See if they have Aurora hospitals in your area, here in the L.A. are we have 2. They have rehab units, psych, med adjust etc etc

Look in the blue pages of your phone book. You can find all kinds of agencies offering help on the specific problems you might be experiencing. I believe in most counties you can not be turned away for lack of money if you are in need of mental health help, at least for addictions. There are anonymous telephone hotlines and agencies that can give you advice by phone and refer you to the right agency for face-to-face services. They can also help you figure out how to pay for it if there is cost, either by vocational help and/or assistance.

Asking is a good start. Also do your research. There are some very good websites that promote mental health. Freedom from fear, Families for depression awareness, NAMI, NIMH, and DBSA are a few to start with.

I went to my gp and asked him for help but if you think that you might hurt yourself or others you should go to the emergency department of your local hospital.

My husband, who has bi polar mental illness, swears by his Psychiatrist! Just make sure that when selecting a Psychiatrist they are able to prescribe medications and do counseling. This combination works for Hubby!

You can contact many websites to tell them about your problems, they will listen to what to say. I have my own problems and I have contacted to Sam. org for many years (sam@befrienders.org.my) . If you need more information, you can find it at http://www.befrienders.org/support/index.asp?PageURL=email.php

Yeah this is a thing I've been wondering about for a while too, so this question helps me as well. There is absolutely nothing it my town, I've looked. I don't want to talk to my family either. I'd rather just have it all confidential and since I am 22 now way past 18 so I don't have to tell my family.
