Those who "depend on god more than others" are deceiving themselves. You depend on others to define God for you.
Here is how I learned to depend on truth. I picked up the red letter edition of the KJV gospels and began with the Sermon on the Mount. I read the first beatitude: "Blessed (with god, one-with god, walkiing with god) are the poor in spirit (spiritually bankrupt of spiritually ignorant thus causing harm to selves and others), for theirs is (also) the kingdom of heaven (that is within us NOW, and if we hunger and thirst for it, we will find it. And when we do, we will be sent a counselor and all that we want is ours).
The above is after months of praying for understanding. I rejected that understanding at first because my religion told me to. But when it finally hit, I understood that my church was teaching me that the poor in spirit were of the kingdom of Satan, and it was lying about much more.
So, stop going to church. Stop listening to Christians. Start listening to the indwelling spirit. Learn from it. Do not be so insecure that you need approval from the unenlightened who do not do as Jesus said and to not teach others to do so. Just listen.
As you listen and learn, your life will blossom and you will not be the same person. You will also discover that the christian God is the opposite of all that Jesus taught about. And when you find that, you will find a god-concept equivalent so beautiful, so loving, so inspiring, and so obvious, that you will call yourself an ex-christian and begin living what Jesus might have called a Christian life.
Jesus said that all that you ask for is given. If you ask for faith in the imaginary, cruel, sadistic God, you will be offered it. But if you ask for truth, no faith is necessary because proof will be given.

By giving up rational thought. Obviously I don't accept any god claim. But if their is one, he's pretty much left us to our own judgement and such. So start by being able to rely on yourself first.

You should look to "depend" more on yourself then in another person, drug, intimate object, or deity. It really is the only path to a happy life that doesn't involve being self delusioned.

Read the story og the Israelites who did not trust God and because of that, got lost for 40 years in the wilderness. That should be motivation.
