I'm in the process of doing it right now, and have so far lost 60 lbs. I feel so much better! Just so you know, I'm disabled and cannot exercise, so I have that working against me. I also quit smoking in 1995 cold turkey after smoking three packs a day for 23 years.

The trick is that you have to want to. Once you have validated your reasons for either quitting smoking or loosing weight, the rest comes naturally. What they say about this is that, if you convince your mind, the *** will follow. All you have to to do is lead it somewhere besides the outhouse every once in a while.

This may or may not work for you, but here's what I'm doing: First, I ballooned up to 315 lbs. because I was confined to a wheelchair for 16 months. Then along came an illness called type II diabetes. I swear, when your down, life can really pile it on. I had no choice but to acknowledge my situation. I then got serious about validating my reasons for wanting to loose weight. It was either this, or start donating limbs to science.

To begin: being male, I limit my daily caloric intake to only 900 calories. You have to have a book that tells you the calories of everything you eat, and a notepad. The notepad is a journal of everything that passes your lips, along with their calorie count, and your weight. This way, you know exactly what's working and what isn't. And oh yea! Because of all this weight loss, I'm no longer a type II diabetic!

I still have 90 lbs. to go to reach my goal weight of 180, but at least I have a helluva start! I will tell you this: you will be hungry. But know that the hunger serves a purpose. After a while, the hunger DOES become manageable. If only because you validate it.

Well, for what it's worth, there is, and hope it helps.

Diet and excercise, simple as that.

The part that is NOT simple is sticking to it.

However the biggest motivator is seeing yourself losing the weight, then you won't want to stop!

and running five miles a day will not guarantee weight loss if you aren't dieting. I would actually run 5 miles a day for a while, but then I would be pigging out the rest of the day. I wouldn't GAIN any weight when doing that but I wouldn't lose any either. You don't have to overdo it on the cardio, just 30 minutes of cardio that gets your heart rate up to around 150 or so, and just eating right, 5 days a week.
