Well, for me, it came rather suddenly, my peers had tormented me for years, I mean I got bullied so relentlessly...there was a school wide conspriacy against me, and there were at least 50 kids involved. and at some point I just sat down and all the cognative dissonance started to set in....<br />

it looked something like this:<br />
"They hate me."<br />
"but why?"<br />
"Because."<br />
"that really doesn't explain anything."<br />
"Because they're bad people..."<br />
"What does it matter if bad people hate me? Isn't that something to be proud of?"<br />
"I suppose."<br />
"then let's go with that."<br />

But for other people, I don't think it really reaches such a critical mass to make you claw thru it like that. so what I typically recondmend people do is take all the compliments they can remember ever receiving and writing them down, and whenver the negativity starts to set in go look at the praise pile. Look at yourself thru the people who appericate yous eyes.<br />

Try being brave about what you really like. All of us 20 somethings have a lot of guilty pleasures that we're too ashamed to share with others because we're afraid of being scorned with crap and ad nausem complaints like "just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good" for me it was music that wasn't as heavy as it got, it was admiting i liked michelle branch and soft rock.<br />

It was coming out to my closest friends that I was never exactly comfortable with the gender roles that were thrust on me and had always related more to women. It was realizing that was OK! that it wasn't some great sin to wear a ponytail every now and then-that my friends wouldn't HATE me.

once you have accepted that you have negative thoughts filled inside of you, you need to stop them from increasing. you then have to remove whatever negative already is in your mind and make it quiet. the quiet mind will then be filled by postive thoughts, love or just blank--no thoughts. the best way to do all this is by meditating regularly. It is a very simple, free and the best way to achieve what you are desiring for. <br />
I have been where you are and I am not too experienced in life,too and so if I can do it, you too can. You could read my stories and you will know for yourselff my extent of being negative. :)

you have to stop thinking of yourself as being defined by being single. that is only one small aspect of who you are. apart from that, it seems like you are on the right track.
