How do I relax my mind? Any tips?

I really have a bussy mind. A friend adviced me to take 5 minutes twice every day, in which I focus on breathing. So that my mind has a moment to calm down.



Are there any other tips and ways? I tried to use sound, I have a shaman drum and made my mind focus on that instead of breathing. It helped I think.. but there must be better ways. Its really hard for me (ADD mind)

(Joule, I 'hate' drinking! :) I an actually a person that never uses alcohol because I saw so many people lose it because of it. Slow music though,.. is quite a good one)

a warm bath..followed by a deep massage....and a good nights rest afterwards.

Mind is a reflection of an inner energy. Meditation is a traditional means of calming the mind but if your inner energy is boiling - keeping a lid on it with meditation only work till the certain point. Alcohol is great but it's only temporary, just like meditation is.

Why do you need to relax your mind? Let it run. The moment you try to chase and conquer it - you're in conflict with your inner being. And being eventually wins with vengeance.
Love you tensed and crazy mind.
Love you tiredness.
Love your crazy thoughts.
The moment you feel yourself out of control - love every moment of it.
Make yourself feel love to it.

If you don't mind your mind to be busy - what happens to busyness?

Autogenetic Training is really great for me,
Progressive muscle relaxion (a calm body is good for calming the mind, but this concentrates on the body really),
Meditation is nice, there are billions of different forms,
Qigong, Yoga, Tai Chi, Karate and all the similar things.
Sports, music, creative arts, games.
Hmm, chocolate?

having a drink will only make it worse. You could become an alcoholic if really helps you and you don't want that. Try meditation. Go to the library and do some research and find the best method that works for you.

This answer is on the presumption you're needing to relax your mind for a meditative purpose. What I find really helps is focusing on breathing. Counting breath's!

Counting has been shown to relax the mind, it gives it something to focus on. Once you're focused, keep rhythm, and take a breath in to the count of four, hold it for a count of four, and then exhale at a count of eight.

Breathing out longer than you breath in has helped numerous people lower their pulse rates, blood pressure, and even recover from heart attacks quicker!

Also, since the body and mind are connected, you need to relax your entire body first and then start meditation.
