How do people deal with having physical scars.?

If you do have PHYSICAL scars how does your attitude to them vary with.. how you got them.. where they are.. even if you're male or female..

Just so people know I do have some scars and I've gone to quite a lot of trouble to have them minimised and I'm kind of reaching the stage where I'm thinking why bother...

The people that are important to you wont even notice the scars, they like YOU.

I have scars on my wrists for the last 10 years and for the first 5 years i was always hiding them. But now i dont even remember they are there.

As a female.. 27.... I have more scars than the average 80 year old....

I've had many operations and accidents.....

I tattooed over some of my scars while others are well hidden and faded due to their age...

I was only bothered by the marking on my body that were not my choice (the operations that I was not old enough to consent to) those I tattooed over with markings that I did consent to.... the ons that I made peace with I have left....

I guess it depends on where they are and how long you've had them.

Bodily scars and certain facial scars can be passed of as "cool", with the right attitude. But scars that are totally disfiguring may be more difficult. Especially if they were caused by some sort of abuse.

The only large scar I have is my c-section scar.

I had an atv accident in 02 I flipped and wasn't wearing a helmet. Its on my left chick and runs threw the side of my nose. I have tried several things but it is still there. It is fading away w the yrs but it is noticable I sometimes think every1 stops and stares and it sometimes has brought me a couple of tears. Thank GOD, for my hubby he is who keeps me strong, he always tells me I am beautiful no matter what ppl think. He said inner beauty is what counts everything else is just cosmetic. My fam{ily} tells me oh, u can't even tell no more thanks 2 all that keep my ego, my confidence, and my selfesteem up !!!

I grew up with a guy who had his face sliced open with a hockey skate when he was little but he was very handsome and the scar was wide and went from the inner part of his right eye accross his nose and down his cheek. Girls went crazy over him and thought that it made him look extra sexy because of it! It kindof gave him that rough and tough look!

scars are reminders from our past, they serve to remind us of where we came from, what we got and where we are going. minimizing them is cosmetic, but it will never erase insecurity that comes from them. learn to accept yourself and all parts of your being, positive and negative. you are who you are.

I have just one visible scar. My cheek was split when I face-planted down stairs. I cover it with make-up...when I wear it...but it serves as a conversation starter and a funny story. Scars can also become emotional...if you want to cover them, so be it. But if I saw your scars, I surely wouldn't be grossed out...that's part of your history. Everyone's got something they don't wanna show.

Personally, I haven't done anything about mine because most of them are so minor but my family is way into the holistic healing, and my step-sister had a spinal fusion (she had about a 2 foot long scar down the middle of her back) and the scar was just awful but she started rubbing all natural wheat-germ oil on it and now its so faint you can hardly tell! It only took like 3 months, so if you can track down some of that, thats what I'd recommend.

Meh, I don't really think about them most of the time. I've got a pretty epic scar on my left arm, from having surgery when it was broken. I think it's kind of cool, and it's slightly amusing when people ask about it.

But, as Egoberd noted, it would depend on how I got it. I got that scar by breaking my arm playing football, a fun activity. If, say, I had gotten it because one of my parents got mad and twisted till it broke, I'd be more upset at the sight of it.

Each scar has a story and a meaning. I'm proud of them.

There is a singer named Seal who suffers from a form of lupus that results in what looks like scars all over his face. He is undeniably handsome, he's had a successful public singing career, and he is married to one of the most beautiful women on Earth, Heidi Klum. All of it -- the career, snagging Klum -- happened after his face became "disfigured." Good luck on your situation.

I have some scars. Most you'll never see because I don't wear swim suits or anything like that - 2 large C Section scars. I have scars on each wrist & shoulder from surgeries. I've got smaller scars on my arms from Iguana claws but oh well! That's me. Part of who I am.
I also have a huge birthmark. It covers my entire left arm, part of my chest and back. I don't even notice it anymore. I took a lot of heat when I was in school because of it. Even now when I walk around I hear people say things about it but that's their problem not mine. I honestly don't know how people that don't have one tell their left from their right! I'd be lost without it!
