How do you deal with verbal abuse?

I know it shouldn't be that big of a deal, but I tired of hearing it from certain people (family) . I have a really bad anger problem too, so I have a zero tolerance for it.

It depends, at first I usually say nothing and internalize it. Then after awhile sometimes I just get pissed off and verbally abuse them back. Other times I just keep thinking what is wrong with me that makes them say that stuff. Hmm good question though!

Give it back - I grew up in a house where every sentence had a swear word in it - the more I swore back, the less I was sworn at.

christ...verbal abuse got the best of me, i felt like hiding sometimes from it, made me feel like shiit!.
yeah, most times any verbal abuse that comes out someones mouth is their relizations of what their ugliness is about their personalities..or actions.
just like when someone accuses you of something, just a guilt of their own actions. just think of that when you hear it.
SOME cases though not everything they say is true about themselves but only means they know their not the best or how they think they should be just mainly..have problems with themself that its hard to work on.....or dont want to face..thats where verbal abuse comes from ..
so if it happens again.. think about that.....laugh. i bet they get uncomfortable. and if its reactions they seek from doing that..itll defitly get them uncomfortable.
and anyway if someone is doing that to you.....why give them the time of day..

I pretty much stand my ground I have never met anyone who can out yell me..well not yet anyway
But if my parents did that which they wouldn't I would just have to walk away some battles you just should avoid if at all possible
As for my sisters it would be ON...lol

cover your ears with your hands and say, "LA LA LA LA LA LA" or you can start screaming and going postal, that would freak the person who is verbally abusing you and start cussing to themselves saying "WTF"

Give them a Stare Down Authoritative look and then I say Lord bless you and walk away. Blows their mind...But I have age on me, it is hard for anyone to take your age serious, just try not to let it stick to you. Hope things get better. I remember those days.

I don't listen to what they are saying at all. I remain very calm, smiling, and start to hit their nerves, not by insults, but by choosing my words very carefully. I don't get into argument with them, I simply start to **** them off by saying things that have nothing to do with what they're saying, e.g. expressing my concern about their wrinkles because they're frowning, or them having a heart attack because they turn red after a while. I aim at their insecurities, flaws, intelligence, whatever, depending on their personality, in a very subtle way. I make them feel completely stupid, even if they're not, by using their anger. I watch them squirm, when they don't know what to tell me anymore and laugh at them as they almost burst into tears out of anger. Then they usually call me crazy, give up, and they never bother me with their sh*t again. This would not be a good idea with somebody aggressive. In this case I would just be saying "bla bla bla" in my mind.

With your sweet speech. A kindly tongue is loadstone to all hearts. The principle for life is to remove darkness with light, and never with darkness.
Up here, some people shower on me with bad speech, but I always return with unchanged respect and love; and I see that the situation is positively changing.
