Someone who has an urge to lie, a need to lie. Someone most of us would obviously not want in our lives because of the constant lies

psychological behaviour; It could be a bad history, sometimes they could be people who were blamed too many times for mistakes that they never made by others; hence saying the truth has become useless in their own reality it doesn't help, so lying just ..well makes it easy for them

I've only encountered one of these in my life, but I realised she was a compulsive liar when I noticed she would tell lies
a.) when she had no real reason to and
b.) of such a magnitude (and silliness sometimes) that anyone with eyes and a brain could see they clearly were not true. One of these lies I remember her telling me was that she had taken a kitchen knife and made several cuts to her belly. Of course when I finally convinced her to lift up her shirt there was nothing there.

Extremely irritating.A person who can not and will not tell the truth. The story, reason, explanation constantly changes to the point where you have no idea what the truth is.It can get so bad that they do not even know what the truth is anymore.

    My ex H
He had this look on his face when he was going to tell a lie. There would be a look. He'd look up to the right then down to the ground and I KNEW another LIE was coming.

    Hi There,
I would define "Lying Addiction" this way...

I define "Pathological Lying" as "the actions of someone who deliberately and intentionally lies for financial, material or some other gain with no care or consideration to how their lies will affect or harm others."

I define "Compulsive Lying" as "the compulsive need to lie as a normal and reflexive way of responding to life."

However, as "compulsive liars" often premeditate their lies as well as lie when driven by the compulsion to do so, I do not feel the term "compulsive liars" adequately covers the condition of lying as a reflexive way of life.

"ADDICTION" on the other hand is defined as "The fact or condition of being addicted to a particular substance, thing, or activity."

So, "LYING ADDICTION" is therefore hereby defined, for the first time, as "The condition of being addicted to lying as a normal and reflexive way of responding to life where the intention is not to cause harm to others."

The "lying addict", therefore, is not someone who, say, is cheating on a loved one and lying all the time about it (although lying addicts could do this of course - like anyone could). A lying addict is somebody who is addicted to lying in order to live.

Hope this helps. I have a book on Kindle which may further explain lying addiction/ compulsive lying for you. It's called "When Truth is Not Enough: Insights into the Minds of Lying Addicts" by Billi Caine.
