Stendahl has described Love as a journey, as symbolized from Bologne (representing indifference) to Rome (symbolized as perfect love):

This journey has 4 stages:

This transformative process actuates in terms of four steps along a journey:

1. Admiration – one marvels at the qualities of the loved one.

2. Acknowledgment – one acknowledges the pleasantness of having gained the loved one's interest.

3. Hope – one envisions gaining the love of the loved one.

4. Delight – one delights in overrating the beauty and merit of the person whose love one hopes to win.

i know i am in love when i can't imagine my life without that person... i know i am in love with myself by putting myself first and moving on after i am forced to live beyond my imagination...

There are two definitions of love I have always thought gave some really wonderful expression to that emotion/feeling/concept:

"Love is that condition wherein one person's happiness is essential to your own." -- Robert A. Heinlein

Maybe these two aren't 100% consonant ... but I still like them both for what they say and how they say it.

Love is something that cannot destroy, for it could not possess. it's a free emotion. it's very much unexplainable.

Love is when you look at him, and your heart swells and you feel filled with joy just to see him, and you know that everything is perfect, because he loves you.
