How do you feel about "Euthanasia"?

for the sake of people who don't know the meaning of "Euthanasia"... it is...in other words..."mercy killing".... something like killing someone because he is in pain..so as to free him from that pain...

Thou shalt not kill.

I always admired my relatives who suffered through pain instead of dying. It taught me a great lesson- and now I am able to hang in there when times get tough. I learned that no pain is ever so great that your own character can't be stronger.

As a rule I think they are better behaved, better at math, and more respectful to their parents than youth in America.

I think it should be legalized but have restrictions so people aren't legally allowed to do it for depression. The pain being spoken of should be a physical pain.

when an animal is suffering we can put them out of there misery, when a human is suffering they have to live with it!..doesnt seem right to me. But i think everyone should learn about the 'living will' so at least you can have some say in the matter if and when it comes to it.

i wrote a controversial issue essay with euthanasia for a thesis my sophomore year in high school. it was the mid 90's & dr. kevorkian "dr. suicide" was in the news headlines for euthanizing his patients. it just so happened that my now late gramma had stage 3 lung cancer that was spreading rapidly, so aggressive therapy would have to be implemented or she was pretty much terminal since she only had months to live without treatment. our family was torn but ultimately my gramma wanted to die on her terms without being hooked up & dying in a hospital her last days. we took her off treatment & we enjoyed the remaining time we had with her. i do not regret or wish she chose otherwise because its what she wanted. i support it hence the DNR but more than that i do not think its a license to kill. i believe its a patients right to decide how they would like to manage their health including their death should it come to that. doctors should honor that.

I definitely agree with Passive Euthanasia
when it would be less agonizing for the patient
Active Euthanasia should be reserved for only extreme cases and when the patient has already expressed their decision in sound mind
It is always best to err on the side of life

If the person that is asking to be euthanasied is coherent I think there wishes should be upheld.

The thoughts in the right place Bebe, to try to safe human life at all cost its completely retarded buts its a sweet thought none the less.

I think there needs to be a way to make it legal. Let's have all appropriate safeguards...medical opinions, and all that...but there can come a time when it's the only civilised option.

For myself I would want the choice if life became unbearable.

I support it. I think that to die with dignity should be considered a basic human right.

I think we should respect a persons right to die. If they are of sound mind, in pain and want to die, who are we to force them to prolong their suffering?

Quality of life is far more important than simply being alive.

Denying that right is simply cruel.

I'm not sure, but I do know that it's necessary that who/whatever is being euthanized actually wants to die. that can't be a decision someone else makes for them against their will.

The idea that it is a legal process to kill someone, well I find this to be intrusive. If I get a brain tumor and know I am going to die. I certainly have the right to choose treatment or non treatment. I can simply let death take its course.
Im not comfortable with laws regarding life or death.
We have Hospice. We have doctors that decide it either way, when we can no longer make that decision. So with that in mind, I think that it should stay out of the law books. We can manage death on our own.

I was going to write something serious to this question, until I finish reading ElLagarto comment! Now I need to go get some windex and paper towels and clean the coffee spit off of the computer screen, after reading his comment!

it needs to be legal. period. i will say that i refuse to live in constant agony and lay around with bedsores, unable to even use the bathroom. i have friends in low places so if i found out i was terminally ill i personally would purchase a large amount of heroin or something upon which i could overdose successfully. but lets' face it not everyone will be able to accomplish this feat and if we request help we certainly should not be denied it.

Passive euthanasia, withholding life support when the person will not recover and letting the natural process of death happen is more humane to me than keeping that person on life support to the point their skin breaks down, organs deteriorate, etc. etc. Active euthanasia I don't think is appropriate because we shouldn't play God on either end of things. Let nature take its course if you know the person will have no quality of life but make them very comfortable and give them as much morphine as they want!

I once worked in a treatment center for people with brain damage. Although I admired their courage for enduring year after year of non life, accept for being alive, I know I could never be able to tolerate what they go through each and every day, with no hope of ever getting better. I would want to end it and not prolong it. I think it should be the right and the choice of the individual.
