First of all, don´t ever humiliate him or insult him because of this. Make sure he doesn´t suffer from a condition that is causing this problem. Only a good pediatrician can tell you. Follow the doctor´s advice closely and encourage your child whe he starts making progress. Good Luck.

Have you taken your child to the Doctor?
There maybe a reason behind this problem.

I agree with laceset. This question is too broad to give a simple answer. I will say this though, DO NOT put the child down or get angry at them for this...it will only give them problems in the long run. Please ask your doctor this question and make sure that they aren't suffering from something medically or emotionally that you aren't aware of.

well... for one thing, you can reward him when he uses the toilet. give him a dollar. or a quarter. or something. if you catch him pooping his pants you can yell at him and say "no no no!" and then put him on the toilet. if you do NOT catch him doing it, then don't yell at him. just clean up the mess.

Definitely see the dr. Also, do not make a big deal out of this, as stress and anxiety could make problems worse, and there is no way to know right of the bat what is causing this. But in my experience(I taught preschool for 8 years, and have two kids) problems like these usually occur when the child's stress level has raised for some reason, and those reasons aren't always obvious to the parent, though sometimes if you sit back and look at the last 6 months, and what has been going on in day to day life, you may find a trigger. Good luck to you.

PLEASE take your child to the doctor. Age 5 is far too late to still be potty training. At this age there could be an illness, a physical deformity, an emotional issue, or your child could be signaling that sexaul abuse has taken place.

Treat your child with kindness and reward even the smallest steps toward progress. You may wish to make a chart that breaks the day into 5 or 6 segments. Award your child a sticker to by placed on the chart when he remains unsoiled. When the chart is filled, allow your child a special treat such as staying up half an hour longer or a picnic at his favorite park.

Your child might be inspired by "gimmicks." The "yellow and blue make green" toilet bowl cleaners delight many young children. Others enjoy beling allowed to pick out colorful or very soft toliet paper. Favorite books, comic books, and even coloring books and crayons can be left in the bathroom. If your child has his own bathroom, you might allow him to draw on the toliet paper with a non-toxic pen.

Remember that young, active children do not like to stop playing and visit the toliet. Try scheduling in specail bathroom times very day such as upon waking up, just before meals when he has to visit the bathroom to wash his hands, after driving home, and just before bed. This way your child will develop the habit of visiting the toliet before it is too late.

While you may become frustrated, try no never show your anger or blame your child. Vent here on EP and don't make the situation worse.

Best of luck!

Buy him a musical toilet and reward him when he goes to the loo. Put a chart on the wall and add stars everytime he goes to the loo.

take him/ her to the bathroom when he gets up in the morning, and encourege him to empty his stomach. give him a small present like a sticker, or anything and calp your hands when he does so. clean him.
Do this again after lunch and before going to bed. even if he did not do any.
take more attention to him. If you catched him starting doing so, say I want to go to the bathroom, maybe he will run there before you.

kids like competions, If he have a younger brother or sister, tell both of them to go to the bathroom, who is faster to arrive there!
