I think you have to get to a point where you're sick and tired of having to deal with it, and you realize the only way to move on is to overcome it. If it's something that's holding you back, take a look at how much of your life has been wasted by that fear. Then take a look at everything you want or need to accomplish in life. Then grab it by the cojones and show it who's boss. Then move on with your life.

I think the best way is to just do it. The more you think about the less likely you are to try. It will be hard no doubt. Even if you don't succeed you can atleast say you tried. But don't stop just because you fail keep trying you will make it. The second time you will go futher than the first and so on and so on.

I think you have to look yourself in the mirror an ask yourself how bad do want something and understand what it means if you don't face those fears. the worst thing that happen is you fail but at least you can look at yourself in the mirror and say to yourself I tried.

Depends on what fear it is, how I face the fear. If it is a fear of failure -- I have this one alot -- I take steps to be as prepared as possible before proceeding. If it is fear of rejection -- I tell myself what could be the worst thing that could happen if i proceed then I still get rejected most of the time-- but it hurts less each time. The fear of having something dangerous happen is legit. And I try to listen to what my common sense is trying to tell me in that regard.

I totally agree with freeflowing. It depends on the fear and how much you want to overcome it. Is it one which negatively affects your life (like going outside) or is a minor thing which you can live with (say fear of spiders).

Try going through every possible outcome in your mind, good and bad, and focus on the positive ones.

Fears are the one basis in life that keeps one from living. When I am afraid of something, I ask myself what is the worst that can happen. I had fear of talking to people or social settings growing up. I would get so nervous that I would actually start shaking. I have overcame my fear of that and if you met me you probably couldn't tell. The one thing I did was ask myself that question and viewed what I was afraid of in a different way. I told myself that when I meet someone that I meet their representative and try to imagine how they felt too. If your fears are with other things then you just take a deep breath and do it. I still have things I am working on but I know I can do them. Someone once told me that trying is lying so just do it. You will be glad you did.

I used to teach my daughter this. While she lay in bed she would imagine her worst fear; imagine the terrible things that might happen. But she imagined that when that "worst thing" was about to happen someone or something (or sometimes herself) would pull her through the ordeal. She said that she often dreamed about what she was imagining. Her fears became easier to overcome. Notice that I said easier, not easy. You will still have to pump a little adrenilin into your blood stream jump into the middle of the pack of wolves with your sword and give them hell. Good luck.

I believe that courage isn't the absence of fear, but it is overcoming it. If you never try to face your fear, nothing will ever happen, nothing will ever change, and you will never learn. I'd say, just let things happen, and whatever it is, just be brave. You don't have to know what's in for you, or how to face it, just go ahead, and be strong and face it. Life is a challenge.
