    Just tell him/her what he/she needs to hear.

    If he/she still does not want to listen, then he/she is on his/her own.

    Get them to think it is their idea or indeed that they are helping someone else, would depend on type of help too.
    Give them a senario of something of where they can maybe help out and then steer conversation back towards them?
