Well personally I didn't really know, but as time went by and I got to know her better I felt I could tell her more and more about me. Now she knows just about everything there is to know. So I guess it's a gradual thing and everyone has their own moment when they feel they can really open up.

I am a pretty open person, maybe too much so, but I don't really hold much back. That's just how I roll. Sometimes it doesn't work out too well, but many times it is okay.

I would say when you see each other as a partner/friend for the long term. And you begin to plan things together.
I think it would be when they open up to you first. Then you can trust them and know that they trust you. In a relationship, it could be when He/She sees you not looking your best, smelling your best,or feeling your best then you would know that this person really cares for you. =)

I think there is a lot to be said for gut instinct. I usually find if I feel like I can trust someone, I can. However, we are not all tuned into others in the same way - so:

- does the person open up/ trust you with personal stuff?
- do they give you their time generously and without conditions?
- do they display a concern for others, and worry about hurting them?

Then again, just remember that nobody's perfect, so anyone can slip up at times. At those times, you need to try to forgive, like they may need to forgive you sometime.

When the other person can talk about experiences that might be embarrassing or painful to remember, then I feel safe enough to open up a little bit.

It happens gradually. Show me a little and I'll show you a little. If nobody gets hurt, then repeat.

I usually wait till they give me the password to the bank account, and I'm thousands of miles away.
