Well the best way is making them think it's in their best interest, and that you won't gain that much from it. So that your self-secraficing while letting the other have it all. Or orchestrate events that point out the importance of it, and make it seem like a coïncedence. Point out the thing you want them to do, in random conversation, but not directed at them, more of: Bob did this thing and then everything was awesome. :P If this is an empathic person you could self-victimize in various ways. In all situation deminish your own importance in the matter, increase theirs, and the value of the thing you want them to do. So play their ego. It's called commercialism, or modern politics. And it's kind of a *@^! manipulative thing to do. But everyone does it, although most people don't notice that they are. And before even concidering using any of these tactics, I would suggest thinking how much this is about helping the other, and how much of it is for personal gain.
