If something is remotely suspicious, ask online for scams that sound similar to the one you're receiving. I put an ad up for a car i was selling on craigslist and they wanted to send a cashiers check and someone down to pick up the car. The check would bounce three days later and the car would have been stolen. They asked me for information like my home address and dumb stuff liek that. Also, if you sign up online for anything like ebay or companies like that they're not supposed to ask for your social security card number.

Scepticism. If *anyone* asks for private information (especially my bank account number) I'm immediately suspicious, and check everything three times.
