Resolved Question

How do you respond to people that see the cutting scars on your body? Do you make up a lie or tell the truth?

I am a cutter for the past 10 months or so. I recently promised myself that I would try to stop, but stress in the last few weeks has brought me back to the razors. I know this behavior is not healthy, but the relief from my pain that I feel when I cut, is such a strong pull. I know I need help, but in the mean time I have to cover up scars and make up stories. What are some of the things you say to make people stop asking or leave you alone.

I've had that problem for 6 years, and I have scars on my legs and arms and stomach that will never, ever go away. People stare. If they don't ask, I don't tell. People assume correctly, usually, and if they're brave enough to confront me about it, I tell them.
I would like to get rid of them.

Neither one. You tell them to mind their own business.

I make up stories. Say it happened when I was working-caught my arm on a screen door....I'm very clumsy so must people guess I fell or had some other accident. I'm with emptysoul though. Tell them to mind their own business

most never ask... but some do look.
Those scars will last for 10-15yrs... so you'll have plenty of time to think up how to respond...

wot randombloke said was 100% true,i can name each 1 of my scars as they r all from an 'event' in my life or from wot people have put me thru dating back 2 the age of 13..im very embarassed about my scars and there is no way of pretendin 2 people thry r sumthing else coz thry r soo obvious..funnily enough this is the first time iv really spoke about them,my mum knew but as i didnt giv her any answer 2 why it was simply a case of 'if we dont talk about it its not really happenin' with her..but some1 on here has given me an idea of puttin rubberbands on ur wrist and instead of reachin 4 the weapon of choice flick the band..so il see how il go with that..xx

Depends on the person whether I tell the truth or not, and also whether they will tell someone fi they know. Many people though do not notice even if there are bandages, or if they do, don't say anything.

I first cut myself when i was at school and went on for ten years or so. Im now 33 and have just started again due to alot of stress that has been going on since may. I lie to my family and friends or cut myself in a place that will be covered. I have told my close friend who is very understanding. I dont really like the scars but self harm is helpfull to get the pain out.

Used to do it when I was much less mentally stable. I made up excuses like falling, animal scratches, and other things. If I told the truth, I feared they would put me away.

There is hope out there, you need to get away from what is not right in your life and you wont have so many problems that you need relief from. My physical pain was to replace my mental pain. What I really needed to do was find out what in my life was causing the mental pain in the first place and get myself away from it.

Message me if you need to.
