There's no ONE way to save money on food and that's especially true when it comes to wanting to eat healthier because that is more expensive than simply living on processed foods. I have to laugh at the shows that make the Extreme Couponers the ultimate role models. Unless these people live on Gatorade and Fruit Roll Ups the show isn't really showing how America and live on food but rather how to hoard stockpiles of soap, toothpaste and candy.
This is not to say that you can't save money with store coupons and manufacturer coupons because you can and when you partner coupons with sale ads, rebates and other promotions it is possible to get something for nothing. The internet has scores of websites and blogs that show these "matchups" for just about any store you can think of. They've done the reason ... you simply steal the deals.
Other awesome tips for saving money on food would including growing (or raising) your own food, joining or starting a food coop, and/or learning how to can or freeze ingredients and recipes made when on incredible sales. The most impressive tip; however, is with planning ahead. It is hard to impulse shop in a grocery store because you're usually tired, hungry, have whining children or spouses, and are tempted by the militant Nazi sample pushers. "Care to try to this new cereal?" ... You oblige when you should reply with "Care to bite my butt???"
Another tip? read the food labels and recipe's nutritional information. We so often overeat with double or triple serving sizes. Anyone reading this overweight? This could be you that I am talking about. Most serving sizes of foods are 1/2 cup or 1/6th of a recipe.
The Sunday papers are not the only sources for coupons. You can find them online, from manufacturer websites and often if you write letters of compliments or complaints directly.. I have found a magazine at Walmart called "All You" with some high value coupons worth checking out.
Check out discount coupons for restaurants through restaurant.com or those entertainment coupon books. Check out restaurant websites as well. Don't be afraid to ask for a "doggie bag" when you order to keep yourself from overeating and making one dinner into two or three. Why set yourself up for waste or waist???
So it's not just one way of cutting your food budget that will work. It may be a combination of several tips above or more that I haven't presented. You may have some of your own tips... please share!
