After years of struggling with looking at the bad side of things, I started only allowing myself 20 minutes of feeling pessimistic. I rant and rave and ***** and moan and think of all the worse case scenarios and go throug the'woe is me' attitude, then I stop. Crazy but it works. It releases the negativity.

I talk to my favorite peeps and just spend a bit of time unloading and venting my troubles.... I may journal or even go seek a counselor if it's something I really am struggling with.
I agree with ZombieKitty.... gotta release the negative stuff sometimes so you can put it to rest and move on to the good stuff!

First and foremost you begin by taking stock of life as you see it. You ask yourself what is there in your life or personality that you do not like and are willing to change. By the sounds of the question, there may be elements about you that cause some self destruction. It may be on an emotional level, or may be in the form of physical habbits for example. Most of us, are our own worst enemy. And we need to get out of our own way in order to succeed in life. Sometimes it can be as simple as changing the way you think, sometimes there may be negative people we need to limit our time with. I heard someone say the other day, that they try to do something new every month that they have never done before. A workshop in art, a seminar, anything. Just to keep your mind stimulated. This keeps you young and always motivated. But simply taking stock, gives you time to look at your strenghts and work with them, identify your weakness and attempt to overcome them. Take a walk and get some fresh air, to remove stagnant feeling from your mind. Look at your relationships, how you treat people and how they treat you. What energises you and what wears you down. Take time always for yourself to replenish meditate yoga walk. Start loving yourself from the inside..and know yourself. Life is short, we fill our head with way more problems than we need. Get back to basics, and give yourself a break. You are who you are, you are the best person for that job. There is no one like you you are unique, and have a special destiny that you WILL achieve, once you get out of your own way. Hope this helps, I say this from experience, these are things I HAVE to tell myself every day...best of luck and health to you.

you don't...the people that love you are like literal life jackets, life guards & life preservers...they are their at your greatest hour of need. they keep you afloat. they take you back to safety. they nurse you to health. you do have to want to be saved. you have to be aware that your problem is bigger than yourself. you have to ask for help. like s.o.s. someone will come to your rescue.

There are lots of positive stories and quotations on the Internet, read them and apply them daily. Eg. laugh out loud the whole day today.
Cry out loud tomorrow.
Laugh out loud the next day...
...until when you realize that you are a different and joyful being.
If this is not affective, look for other practices.
Pray for your success.

It can be difficult to overcome and with all of today's problems, easily to fall prey of.

It requires self talk and vision of you be confident. Tell yourself that your are positive and think of all of your blessings. From there, it is easy.

I try not too worry so much.
Realize you have strengths and weaknesses.
Believe in yourself.
Be around people who make you feel good.
Realize we live in a very rigid, structured Capitalist society, some of our problems are hard to control.

I try to do/remember the above AND believe happiness/sadness is subjective, we can control our emotions to a degree.
