Do the best you can to interpret what you are seeing. Ask follow up questions if the situation allows.

Research and weigh up the found facts. Even books and the news press tell fibs

Well, when it comes to news or something I read from many different sources to make sure it's kinda fairly accurate. When it comes to people, I just kina observe how they act. Most people are pretty predictable if you watch them carefully. and just go with your gut if you think they're lying...I donn't really understand why bother lying on here..no one knows who ya are anyway. I'm gonna tell the truth!!

I consider the source.

Firstly I try to decide whether the poster has an axe to grind. If it seems they do I will either discount it, or try to find some verification.

If the source seems reliable and what they say makes sense, I'm inclined to believe it until I hear otherwise, because I'm lazy/busy.

If I see two conflicting reports on the same thing I might hunt around until I get a concensus and go with that.

Ultimately if I'm still in doubt and I want to know I'll go to a reliable source like the BBC or CNN.

What is fact; what is fiction?
Most read/see/hear something and if they like it, it becomes fact. If they dislike it, it becomes fiction.
Some, such as I, become objectivists, which means they look at the evidence and empirically tey to come up with a conclusion. These are called idiots or weirdos.
Its up to you to choose. Weirdo or factual person? You have to choose.

Check multiple sources. Watch for cut and pastes in those sources.
Check the sources for references and footnotes.
