When trying to stop thinking I normally play a movie I've seen a ton of times because the noises that come from it are something I already expect so it's nothing new to me and it keeps my mind from wondering about what's going to happen next. Or just take drugs.

I start counting down from 1000 slowly, and before long, I am asleep, so I think it helps me to stop that thinking that keeps me awake.
