How do you tell one of your best friends that he's an a*s?

Lately he's just been kind of estranged from our group of friends. I and everybody else really want to confront him about his elitist attitude, but we don't know how to do it.
He's making everybody not like him, and weekends are becoming very uncomfortable when he's around.
As if being a jerk wasn't enough, we think he's going batsh*t crazy. After taking AP Psych in school, he honestly thinks that he can read minds or something. He told me that he finds us too predictable and that he has to move on to other groups of friends. Naturally, that didn't really pan out as he'd hoped, so he's still "stuck" with us.
So, how the hell do you confront someone who thinks he's a god without bruising his ego too badly?

To be totally honest, I'm a complete p*ssy when it comes to that kind of direct confrontation. That'd definitely be the best way to go, but I'm trying to avoid that by asking this question you see :P

womp womp. real life is going to put you through more. better get used to confrontation now. doesn't necessarily have to be dramatic.

If he's really your best friend, just tell him, if he get mad that's ok, best friends fight the most.

Let him know his behavior is bugging everybody...if he keeps it up, everyone will believe he is a bonafide jerk...instead of just "acting" like one...

invite him over to watch a movie with- plop in the hangover- and point out that he reminds you of the a hole of the film- the obnoxious, loud- jerk- that causes all the probs- I forgot his name.
