...and you figure out pretty quickly that that was all they ever meant to do....

It might be wrong but I've learned to blow it off and not let it bother me. :)

    Its normal behaviour from women as far as I can tell. They seem incapable of not turning every part of a relationship, from start to finish, into a game where they know the rules, you have to guess and you are the only one who can lose.
