    It's complicated... But I tend to start with a few good lyrics, then I think up a melody in my head. I sometimes play it in different meters (change to compound meter etc), and then I make note of my time signature. I try to line up the words and I write additional lyrics right above the time markings, so that the rhythm is consistent. Then I usually start writing the music with the bass line. When I have that, I usually use it to dictate the chord structure (the bass being the root or the fifth of a chord). Then I fit in a melody and I start recording. As I work with tracks I change things up a lot...

    Thanks! I write songs too. I usually get my lyrics from the lines or ideas I have in my notes from the past.
