As an English major, the best advice I've ever received was when my writing teacher said, "The best way to become a better writer is to write more." Just don't stop. The more you write, the more you'll feel the need to test your creative waters, the more you'll challenge yourself, and the more diverse and talented you'll become. Also, have an arsenal of readers and critics who aren't afraid to give you advice.

Write a lot, and read even more. Read and read and read. Every great author I have ever heard talking about their writing, says they read a lot. Where they get the time, is beyond me, but they all say it.

Keep writing, and get as many people as possible to read it and let you know what they think.
