How does one cope with start over after losing a job and then your home. I am at my wits end?
I had lost my job in 2006 and accepted a job that appeared promising with the opportunity of advancement...so said the recruiter, who in my opinion LIED. I cut back as much as I could, even looked for a part time job to save my home... After attempting that and attending every job fair and seminar to try and save my home...it did not pan out (I lost my home last September). I do not sit and say woe is me, and am attempting to get back on my feet, but I am coming up on the anniversary when this fiasco started (I was served with papers for foreclosure on Friday June 13, 2008...yeah), and it is still difficult...some days I cannot get past the crying, and my therapist is no help (all she tells me is you have to forgive and move on...yeah, I bet if the roles were reversed, she would not be saying that).

If any one has been through this and can offer some advice or words of wisdom....I would greatly welcome it!
Thank you.

First, sack your therapist - it's money you don't need to be spending - instead, write out your feelibng here or somewhere similar; you'll get better help, far more support, it's free (unlike your therapist) and you're likely to meet people who've been in a similar situation. This'll help a lot, as it's comforting to know you're not alone in this - others are suffering just like you. Together you can find coping strategies and practical solutions. Secondly, just keep telling yourself that whatever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger - corny, i know, but true.
We lost our home over 7 years ago - life goes on, i promise. Also, my hubby lost his job last year and has been out of work since then with ill health, but i can still smile because i know in my heart that things always turn out for the best. It's hard to accept at first, the loss and sense of failure is too strong - but mark my words, every day WILL get easier and before long, you'll be holding your head up and getting on with it. Best of luck to you - try not to let the b@stards get you down! xx

I'm not sure that there are any great words of wisdom but you are certainly not alone. Especially in this current crappy economy many are going through hardship or are being forced to start over. No one can tell you how or when you will get over this and put it behind you because everyone works through things at a different pace. All you can ever really do is pick up the pieces and dust yourself off and keep trying. The old saying is that things are darkest just before the dawn. You never can be sure what opportunity lies around the next corner. It is certain though that if you don't keep trying you will never know.

I don't have any words of wisdom, other than to say, that if, after going through all of that, you are not a "woe is me" type person....then, you are definitely a survivor, and will look back on this one day, and see just how far you came....

I am sorry you had to experience that.....

Have you ever considered moving to a new area?

Sometimes life hands you these globs of hail and mud balls.
Maybe its a signal that its time to change your surroundings. Get a new life.

I hope you are well and doing the best you can with what you are handed. Be Creative!

You have to realize that before you hit that perfect long term situation you will have a few different jobs. The key is to decide what you want and start working atdoing it yourself instead of waiting or wanting someone to do it for you.
Instead of trying to cope with something that is done, deal with making life what you want it to be.
So the big question is ,What do you want? Lets talk about that.

Look forward, don't look back. This is the first day of the rest of your life so get on with it, move forward, the past is history. Nobody said starting over was easy but if you focus on the future and not the past it's much easier.

I was in the same situation in 2005. Lost my job..couldn't pay my rent and lost my place. Even though I didn't own my home. Now that is difficult. I wish you the best of luck. The one saying that has also got me through is "trouble don't last always". I don't know your religion but just know that you will never carry more than you can bear.

I know this sounds corny but the question is really the answer. One just copes. I know it sucks. My wife and I were on the very edge of losing our home with two little baby boys to support. Luckily I found a position and the lender worked with me to refinance, but it was a near miss and sure put some strain on our marriage. I can only say you sound like a survivor and 10 years from now you will look back and say 'damn I'm good!' I had a really tough situation but I stuck it out and look at me now!

Ups and downs are natural things for all people at different times, in different circumstances. I have gone through calamities many times. We always need to learn new trades, new skills, new ways to stand firm and to progress.
Our children and grand children need many of these lessons from us.
