I've circumnavigated the earth, but my favorite place was Plantation Islands in Fiji.
The northeastern part of the city of Moscow (a city I basically like very much), where you can walk for miles and see nothing but beat-up apartment buildings, people living right on the margins, abandoned cars in every parking área, tiny shops that won't sell you a Pepsi because you are foreign, even if you know some Russian, and so forth. I've done it a couple of times and it's very helpful as a way of regaining your balance if you're an average middle-class US person.
border towns In Mexico are ****. I have been to Mexico and everyone knows not to go to border towns.
