The side going straight up is the length of the triangle you need to find.

The equation you would use is:

tan y = opposite/adjacent.

First you need to know the distance between Sarasota and Cincinnati. This number is the value of the adjacent.

The side straight up is the 'opposite'.

y is the angle of the curviture of the earth. Have a look on google or something to find out what this is.

Then rearrange the equation to be:

opposite = adjacent x tan y

or

Height in sky = 'distance from Cincinnati to Sarasota' multiplied by tan 'curviture of the earth'

That should give you your answer.
