How is it that a person can exercise everyday and still not lose weight?

or at least not lose a significant amount. you would think that someone that exercises on a daily basis would be burning a fair amount of calories.

Exercising is not really about weight. You can gain weight or stay the same. It may change the body fat and size but increase weight if your exercise builds muscle. An active lifestyle is more important to health than weight. When I worked out seriously, I had gained weight and size in my arms and chest, but lost around the waist. When I went to running and did not do the weight training, I lost some weight, but also some muscle mass. Of course a female should have more body fat than a man to be healthy so my example would be different for you.

Your metabolism could be slow, too. Talk to your doctor for some tips or a referral to see a nutritionist, on your next visit

you may be building muscle, which weighs considerably more than fat.
Don't weigh yourself, measure your self in waist, hips areas or have your body fat measured.
Eat 4 or 5 small lowfat meals a day to keep your metabolism running high. Even after you stop working out your metabolism will keep burning calories.

that's the hard part lol. you're right, of course, but you would think that you would burn more calories if you're active. i can see a couch potato not losing weight but that's not the case.

Definitely diet, and not enough working out. 30minutes is not sufficient, it takes 20-30 minutes to even begin to burn away any sufficient amount of calories. You don't have to run, or walk, you can do heavy lifting for 40-50 minutes and still get a good work-out. Also, working out everyday, the way you should, can actually do more harm than good. I prefer to run than lift, but I do lift as well, even though I don't like. We'll say I start today, I'll run today for 60 minutes, doesn't matter how fast, just running a pace in which you won't stop within that 60 minutes, usually get 6-8 miles in that time. The next day I do burn outs concentrating on just my arms, or my back, or my abs, and a very light jog, about 10-20 minutes just to get my legs stretched out, then the next day I'll walk for 10-20 minutes to again stretch out my legs, and then do some heavy lifting using my legs, the next day I'll choose one of the 3 primary parts (arms, abs, back) I haven't yet chosen, and jog yet again for 10-20 minutes. The next day I choose the last of the 3 primary parts I haven't yet chosen. Then for 2 days I rest everything, no working out what so ever... that is except for the push-ups, sit-ups, and weightless squats I do everyday anyway. Doing this I dropped from 255lbs to 150lbs in a little over 5 months, without a diet change, and dropped ten more pounds in basic training. I started not being able to even run 1 full block from my house, speed walking back home, to running 6-8 miles by the end of that 5 months in one hour, also increasing from a miserable 11pushups and 19 situps, non-stop, and in a 2 minute period, to 77pushups and 80situps, non-stop, and in a 2 minute period. The important thing is knowing your body. If it says no, just listen to it and stop. Not saying, I don't feel like doing it, or I'll do it tomorrow, but when your body says no, just stop there and always seek to slowly improve, and not in a great way, and you will succeed. Never give up. I ran into a wall in losing weight around 215-220lbs and another at 170-178lbs, always bouncing between the two, but I would, in time, finally break through that point and continue to lose weight.

You just need to push past your comfort level. Amp it up and go beyond what your doing. Try a new type of exercise all together. Don't just keep doing the same thing and expect your body to change. Try yoga. It's awesome!

exercise is to tone and build the muscle you lost as the weight came on. It is to bring your body back in shape as you loose the weight. For some working the body gives the ability to loose for some it may not. I exercise because I am trying to loose weight myself and I have. The exercise's that I do are to tone up my arms, give muscle back in my legs.. and tight up the skin that stretched..

I once saw a doctor when I was about 30. I had gained alot of weight from my second pregnancy and it also gave my back disease a harder time on me.. so I asked him how to loose. He gave me all kinds of things to try, but the most important one I believe he taught me was.. only try and loose 2-4 lbs a Month.. yep that's it. This gives your body time to adjust and keep it off each goal.. I did it and at that time I lost 40 pounds.. yes it took awhile but it stayed off until the last few years..

So I am back to loosing it at a slower rate, thing is it is coming off. Only this time I have ALOT more to take off.. I WILL DO IT.. you can too..
I was loosing even before I was exercising just from changing what I ate, how I ate, and when I ate.. it all is apart of it..

You have to be a bit more specific. It depends on the type of exercise this person is doing. For one to lose weight, minimum half an hour of cardio, 3 to 4 times/week is a must plus proper diet.

Over-weight people can't physically do all the work required to burn it off when they're still eating worse than normal, it's really all about diet. You can lose weight and do nothing if you eat less calories than you require.
