The US has not captured and kept other nations for the purpose of extracting wealth as the British Empire and others have done. The question is seriously disturbed.

Not so. The US just outsources to the corporate sector. And actually Britain did the same with the British East India Company and HBC in Canada. America learned well from mother.

Those in power know damn well they are in power and strive to keep and increase it. Denial of power is not a characterisitic of the powerful and Americans are no exception.

The citizens of any empire at any time were ignorant of politics. The ones that understood the politics were living in lands that were occupied by the empire. I'm not saying Americans are ignorant because the US isn't an empire in my eyes. It's a wanna be empire.

The US gave up the concept of being an actual Empire way back when the Philippines became independent. We usually prefer to exert influence through economics--much less violent and cheaper than trying to take over other countries as traditional empires did.

I see it as semantics. Like instead of colonies the US has "protectorates." And I think Iraq would disagree that the US is about "soft power"

Our military is almost out of Iraq and we're not running it as part of an Empire with perpetual occupation and an US government. There's a big difference.

what do you think manifest destiny was? People are generally confused about reality...mainly because of all the lies they are taught....but also..because people like to think that they are involved in good things.

An Empire implies that we have "strength" a regime the opposite.
