How long can it take to get over a UTI?

I was originally on the antibiotic, Bactrim DS, for 5 days and it was not over after the 5 days my doctor put me on the same antibiotic for 5 more days. I just started the second antibiotic on Monday. I now have 6 tablets remaining in the second bottle. I do not have to rush to the restroom, and my backpain is gone away. but sometimes I still see some blood in my urine. Does it sometimes take longer to get rid of really bad infections?, I am a lots beter, but I still sometimes pass a litle blood when I urinate. My doctor closes at noon on Friday, so if I am still having some passing of any blood I would imagine I need to contact doctor about gettng more medicine. I had a UTI in April, and I was prescibed Bactrim DS for the infection. The doctor did a urine test on me to confirm I did have the UTI this last time as well. I honestly feel the original infection never was cleared up.

I would DEFINITELY get a second opinion.

You could possibly have been misdiagnosed. There are a lot of problems that can cause UTIs.. maybe your UTI cleared up, but the major problem still exists.

Get a second opinion, it couldn't hurt!

Oh, Painful! Talk to your Dr. again, but I've had them for over two weeks. Drinking LOTS of cranberry juice, or taking cranberry pills (you can get them at a whole foods market) and drinking LOTS of water can sometimes help tremendously.
