How long does it take to recover from a extremely abusive relationship, and what is the best way to do so?

How long depends on you. Some women identify permanently as a victim or survivor and never really recover. Others identify as an individual worthy of better and move on with their life.
Traumatic events (war, horrible traffic accidents, cancer, death of a loved one, abuse as a child or spouse, ...) always alter us. We never completely "recover" from these things. But we can learn, grow, and become better people despite them.
I wish you luck on your journey.Like (2)

With good support, it can be sooner than you think. Be around good friends and family often, and go to church, then get back out there, the worlds' waiting FOR you! <>< God Bless!

therapy. IMHO, full recovery (and not repeating) is almost impossible without help form a therapist who is very knowledgeable in this area.

You need to distant yourself from the person who is abusive to you, first of all, no contact, no giving second chances and thirds; you need to start fresh, you need to heal yourself inside and out before engaging in another relationship; you need to repair what your abuser took from you; there is no time limit; when you are ready to move ahead, it will just feel right.
